Moving On....

So I thought that being I haven't posted about what has been happening lately I should do that.  About 2 weeks ago I moved back to my parents house.  This was kind of a forced/ but good change I think. Although I really loved my roommate Jessie, the situation at the house got a little crazy for me. She decided to have her boyfriend who I don't really trust for a few reason's move in, he is also the kind of guy who you feel like is always looking down and judging you.  I constantly felt like he was watching my every move, and when I mentioned something about it, it changed to him hiding out upstairs all the time and that just got more annoying. This guy wasn't a very nice guy. I don't think he treated my roommate well but thats for her to figure out and me to move on with.  So I am back home. Don't worry I don't have plans to stay long just long enough for Seth to get out of his place probably around June/July and then we will either buy/or find something to rent out in the Riverton/Herriman area for him to be close to work and me close to my family and better allowing me to allow Zoie her social time and time to run around in my parents backyard with her family.

I have also begun looking for a new job. I feel slightly trapped in my job right now. I don't feel like I can move up or into anything else, with a company this small right now there isn't room for moving.  I have also felt like I am not getting treated fairly... Here is the story as I told to a friend of mine

So where I work there are 3 administrative assistants. I am the HR Assistant, and we have 2 Office/Operations Assistants. So for the last two years the pay has been like this me making $5.50 per hour, Admin A making 5.75 per hour and Admin B making 8.50 per hour. Me and Admin B both started around the exact same time into similar roles, she started 1 week prior to me. Through the last few years we both kinda fell in opposite but still similar positions her focusing more on operations and me focusing on HR. We have both been with the company for about 3 1/2 years. I came in with some college background but no degree; she came in with a background in real estate and a real estate license. Since then I have completed my Associates degree :), and Admin B has started going to a career college to earn a degree. (Just in the last 6 months). Now here is what I think... Being a Mormon in mining is kinda rare in the mining industry.(out of the 3 assistants I am the only lds girl, and my hr manager is also not LDS nor is my General Manager) I work with a ton of drinkers who are always getting together to have Margarita’s and beers. I decline to go to the bar with them after work because really I have no place there. However I feel like it’s putting me in a lower position because I am LDS and I choose not to drink that I am getting over looked when it comes to pay. We just recently got raises. I did the market research on these for my boss who then took them to the General Manager. When looking at them I realized even more how I should be making much more with going on 3 years experience, many learning courses through the employers council, and finishing my associates where I primarily took business management courses, that I should get a fairly good raise and that it should close the huge gap between me and admin B. I talked briefly with my boss about that gap and she agreed that it should start getting closed, as our job titles are the same and our job duties are very comparable. With that being said raises came out on Monday, I will now be making 7 per hour, Admin A will make the same as me, and Admin B will be making 10.50 per hour. Making the gap even wider. I am beginning to feel like because I choose not to go out and party with my co-workers that I am not getting the money I should be making. Yes I am super happy that I got a raise especially with how the times are going, and I am super happy about that, but at the same time I feel like I am not getting the fairness and consideration because I don't drink with them, and I don't get the face time outside of work that they do... (I have changed the actually wages, due to me not wanting to broadcast what I really make) but the differences are there. So what are your thoughts?  What would you do if you were in my shoes?  Do I sound like I am just complaining? Do you think my feelings are justifyable? Please let me know all 1 reader of my blog.

  1. You definitely should be concerned about the pay difference-- especially if you feel your work is comparable in quality & quantity to your coworkers!

Kudos for not being the party girl! : ) You will be paid in blessings.

Make me reader #2 of your blog. : )

  2. I'm glad you said you changed the actual wages, because I was thinking to myself that you could be making WAY more than 5 something an hour! Mike's going through the same stuff here with work and not drinking. Hang tight while you look for a new job that appreciates the awesomeness of Lacey!
